Twinkle Khanna, writer and film producer, has now responded on the controversy involving her husband Akshay Kumar and comedian Mallika Dua. Twinkle made it clear that she doesn’t want to be pulled into the controversy but she would definitely make her stand known to everyone.
She took to Twitter to express herself and wrote a small post regarding it,
“I would like to address the controversy on the sets of ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’. The show has a bell which the judges ring after a contestant’s exceptional performance and Dua went forward to ring the bell, Kumar said, ‘Mallika ji aap bell bajao main aap ko bajata hun’. A pun on the words and actions related to ringing the bell. It’s a colloquial phrase that both men and women use — for instance, ‘I am going to bajao him/her’ or ‘I got bajaoed’, all without sexist connotations.”

She further added,
“Vinod Dua, Maliika Dua’s father, had written a post — it’s been taken down now – stating, ‘I am going to screw this cretin Akshay Kumar’. Should Mr Dua’s statement also be taken literally or interpreted in context? Words, especially humour has to be seen in its right context.”
She meant to say that words should not be literally interpreted when they are used in humoristic context.
She also talked about the much needed “freedom in comedy” as she said,
“I have always stood up for the freedom within comedy including defending AIB’s (All India Bakchod’s) infamous roasts on numerous occasions in the past and that is my stance even today, so kindly stop tagging me in this debate.”
The controversy started when Mallika shared an unaired video on Twitter which shows Akshay saying to her,
“Aap ghanti bajaiye, main apki bajata hu (You ring the bell and I shall bang you).”
Mallika found the comment to be sexist in nature and her father and renowned journalist, Vinod Dua, also found it objectionable and slammed Askhay for using such language.
However, many people were of the opinion that Mallika is taking revenge as she and other comedians have been asked to leave the show due to low TRPs. They will be replaced by director Sajid Khan and actor-director Shreyas Talpade.
